Cloud dictation tools send your audio to their servers for transcription. For a European user that raises the usual questions: where is it processed, who can access it, how long is it kept, which transfer mechanism covers it.
Dictate sidesteps them. The speech model runs on your Mac's Neural Engine. Audio is held in memory, transcribed, and discarded; the text goes straight to your cursor. No audio or text is uploaded, so there is no processor, no retention period and no transfer to assess for dictation itself.
Built for European languages
Dictate uses NVIDIA's Parakeet TDT v3, trained on European languages, and detects which one you're speaking — dictate an email in German, then a note in English, without touching a setting.

Is there a European alternative to Wispr Flow?
Yes. Dictate is made in Denmark and transcribes speech on your Mac, so your voice is never sent to a server in the EU or elsewhere. It supports 21 European languages with automatic detection.
Does Dictate process personal data on a server?
No. Dictation audio and the resulting text never leave your Mac. There is no account and no analytics. The one exception is the optional Claude cleanup, which is off by default and sends text to Anthropic only if you switch it on.
Can I use Dictate at work with confidential information?
Because speech is processed only on the device, dictating into Dictate adds no third party that receives your data. Whether that meets your organisation's rules is for your data protection officer to decide — the privacy page lists every network connection so they can check.
